    Zviad Dzidziguri

   Chairman of Conservative party of Georgia;

 Deputy chairman of Georgian Parliament;

 

 

 

 

 

Zviad Dzidziguri was born on October 31, 1964 in the village Marani, Abasha region.

He graduated from Politechnical Institute of Georgia, Construction Faculty.

Since 1987 was involved in the national movement, he was one of the founders of the Ilia Righteous Society.

He participated in October 28, 1990 elections and became the Single Mandate MP from Samtredia region to the Supreme Council of Georgia.

In 1991, on the basis of the ordinance by the President Zviad Gamsakhhurdia, he was appointed as the Prefect of Samtredia region.
After the military coup in 1992, he was actively fighting against the illegal regime of Shevardnadze, he was the Political commissary to Imereti region, appointed by Zviad Gansakhurdia.
In 1995 he, along with the brother and the brother-in-law was arrested by the then authority, the Prosecutor’s Office asked for his execution and the Court sentenced him with imprisonment for 13 years.
In 2000 he was released as a result of the rallies by the political prisoners and the efforts by the international organizations and the Catholic-Patriarch of Georgia.
In 2000 he founded “Union of the National Powers” on the basis of which the Conservative Party was established. In 2003 he was elected as the Single Mandate MP of Samtredia region to the Parliament.
Since 2004 he periodically was the Chair of the Parliamentary Faction “Democratic Front” (the Faction was composed of 2 subjects: Conservative party and the Republican party).
In 2008 he declined the mandate obtained in the Parliamentary elections.
In 2010 he was the candidate to the Mayor of Tbilisi in the Municipal elections. He gained the 4th place with 8,3% of votes.
In the October 1, 2012 Parliamentary elections he was nominated by the Coalition “Bidzina Ivanishvili – Georgian Dream” as the Single Mandate MP from Rustavi. He was elected with 54,16% of votes.
At the 5th plenum of the Conservative party he was unanimously elected as the Chair of the party by 496 delegates.

He has a wife and 5 children.
